Day 1 | March 31, 2019 | Welcome To The Roses

Enjoy an evening welcome reception at Rose Story Farm nestled in the hills of Santa Barbara’s American Riviera. Meet, greet and relax among the roses with Dani, Felicia, Fallon, Rachael and fellow attendees while our workshop photographer Jona captures the magic of all of the moments.

Welcome & Introductions

Say hello to the group with an introduction. Tell us a little about who you are, where you’re from and what roses mean to you.

Seasons of Color: Walking Tour of Rose Story Farm

Dani, founder of Rose Story Farm, will guide the group on a walking tour. Take in the beauty of over 120 varieties of roses and 25,000 plants. She’ll share the story of the farm, her best practices for selecting colorful roses and even let you in on the history of the iconic Julia Child rose and its connection to the farm.

The Foundations: Farming Basics

To grow great roses you have to start from the ground up with all of the non-rosey basics. Felicia, founder of Menagerie Farm & Flower, will focus on the fundamentals of farm & garden cultural practices from planting bare roots and potted roses to irrigation selection and management, soil testing, fertilizing & amendments, regulatory compliance, equipment selection, efficiency and more. Tips and tricks that apply not only to roses but any plants you may grow.

The Foundations: Garden Rose Growing

Fallon Shea, rose specialist, and Dani will walk you through the basics of growing garden roses. With their more than three decades of combined knowledge growing cut garden roses this is a session not to be missed. Focusing on organic insect & pest control practices, pruning and cutting, how to pick colorful varieties that are successful for you and much more.

Seasons of Color: The Rose Is The Star

We’ll forget about all of the cream and blushes for the afternoon as Fallon shows you how to select colors that wow. She’ll demonstrate her techniques for how to design with roses as the focal point of an arrangement.


Day 3 | April 2, 2019 | Through The Looking Glass

Through The Looking Glass: Rose Garden Design

Look at how you design your rose farm or garden in a new way. Dani will show you how to plot and plan your rose plantings while focusing on companion plants, design movement and flow.

Through The Looking Glass: Planting & Foraging Companion Plants

Stroll around the grounds of Rose Story Farm and look at the plants with a different eye. Dani and Rachael, our guest designer from Siren Floral Co., will show you how to look for the natural bounty all around. Forage from the garden grounds for botanicals that you’ll use in the afternoon to create natural floral designs.

Through The Looking Glass: Designing With Roses & Garden Flowers

Rachel will show you how to use companion plants, local foliages and garden roses to create unique floral designs. Using texture, movement and the natural flow of the stems she’ll walk you through the steps to see the stems in a new way. She’ll be on hand to help as you practice using the elements foraged from the farm in your own floral design.

Through The Looking Glass: Rosey Reflections

Cap off the workshop experience with an introspective period to journal your reflections, evaluations and plan for a rosey future.
