What is The Gathering Rose?


The Gathering Rose is a collaboration between Danielle Hahn of Rose Story Farm and Felicia Alvarez of Menagerie Farm & Flower. With over 40 years of combined farming expertise they wanted to create unique experiences to share their love of garden roses. From educational workshops to inspirational retreats The Gathering Rose is a place for farmers, floral designers, gardeners, photographers, writers, artists & dreamers to gather and experience the beauty that garden roses bring to the world. Please join our email list to learn about our upcoming events.


Will you offer more workshops & events?


Yes, we plan on having more workshops, retreats and events. Our events will focus on topics ranging from advanced garden rose farming, advanced floral design, rose garden design, writers symposiums, photography workshops, artists retreats and more. We wanted to create a series of experiences for a wide range of creatives that brings together experts in their fields with people who want to learn, connect and create all around the singular love of roses. Event & Workshop Questions

Who can apply to the A Rose For All Seasons workshop?

A Rose For All Seasons workshop is open to anyone interested in learning more about garden roses. The workshop is designed to cover an introduction in the basics of rose farming and gardening. We welcome applicants that are flower farmers, floral designers, farmer florists, gardeners, artists, writers and dreamers with no prior rose gardening or farm experience. Applicants must be over the age of 21 years old. Click here for full scholarship rules.


Why is this free? What’s the catch?


There’s no catch when we say we are awarding all 15 tickets complimentary we mean it. Attendees will only be responsible for their transportation to and from Rose Story Farm and all dinners everything else is included depending on the scholarship type (some attendees will be responsible for their own lodging). In return for the unique experience we do ask that you complete an evaluation and reflection survey at the end of the final day with your feedback so we can help plan our future retreats and workshops.


I don’t live in the in the United States, can I still apply?


Yes, applications are open to anyone from all countries of the world. You are however responsible for your transportation to and from the workshop. Please visit our official rules here for details.


What is the application deadline?


All applications must be received by Friday, March 1, 2019 at 9pm PST. The are no exceptions and late submissions will not be considered. APPLY NOW


How many scholarships are you offering?


We are offering 15 scholarships. 7 Platinum Scholarships with full room & board on the farm and 8 Gold Scholarships with only meals provided (participants responsible for finding their own lodging).


Can I edit my application after it is submitted?

You will not be able to make changes or edit your application once it’s submitted. Please make sure to check your application carefully for errors prior to submission. Applications will be accepted via our website only.


How will I know my application has been received?


Once your application is submitted through our online form you will receive a confirmation email automatically. If you do not receive your confirmation email please check your junk or spam box first only then do we recommend you resubmitting your application. If the problem persists please contact us.


What topics will be covered during the workshop?


This introductory workshop WILL cover:

the foundations of farming, designing a rose farm or garden, selecting varieties, growing and designing with companion plants

This workshop WILL NOT cover:

business management, financial planning, marketing, social media, price structures, sales, processing & shipping, photography

What is the start and end time of the workshop?


The workshop will begin with a one hour optional welcome reception around 4:30pm the afternoon of Sunday, March 31, 2019. April 1 & 2, 2019 will begin around 9am each day and end around 4pm. Times listed here are subject to change. Exact times will be sent to ticket winners prior to the start of the event.


May I bring a spouse, children or pets?

Due to the intimate nature of the event and so we can accommodate as many scholarship winners as possible there is no room at the farm for spouses, family, pets or other guests to attend the workshop. They are welcome to travel with you to the Carpenteria area and we are happy to provide ticket winners with suggestions for local lodging nearby the farm.
